Copenhagen-based ABH Optics ApS, an innovative spin-off from the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), has successfully raised €1 million in a pre-seed funding round. The investment, led by High-Tech Gründerfonds (HTGF), positions the company to advance its groundbreaking work in developing the world’s thinnest and lightest eyeglass lenses.

HTGF’s Senior Investment Manager, Olaf Joeressen, expressed enthusiasm about the venture: “We are excited to support ABH Optics as they work to transform the eyeglass lens market with their meta-optics technology. Their approach has the potential to greatly enhance the quality of life for individuals with high dioptre prescriptions and presents a promising future for the technology.”

Innovative Lens Technology

Founded in 2022 by Anders Kristensen, Bo Svarrer Hansen, and Henrik Bense-Petersen, ABH Optics leverages nanotechnology to create ultra-thin, lightweight lenses. The company’s proprietary technology, developed under an exclusive IP license from DTU, promises significant advancements in both comfort and environmental sustainability. The lenses are designed to be less than 2 mm thick, even for prescriptions as high as +/-20 diopters, catering specifically to the 13% of eyeglass wearers with high prescription needs.

ABH Optics CEO Bo Svarrer Hansen commented, “This funding is a crucial milestone for us. We are delighted to have HTGF’s support as we move forward with our mission to bring our revolutionary lenses to the market. Our technology not only improves comfort and aesthetics but also aligns with our commitment to reducing plastic use.”
