Exakt Health Secures €2M Seed Funding to Transform Sports Physiotherapy in Germany

In a significant advancement for the health tech landscape, Exakt Health, a pioneering startup, has successfully raised €2 million in Seed funding. This funding underscores its commitment to revolutionizing sports physiotherapy with the introduction of the first digital therapy certified as a medical device in Germany.

As more amateur runners seek to prevent injuries, the need for personalized training solutions has never been clearer. Traditional offerings, often costly and static, have left many without adequate support. Personal trainers and physiotherapists are prohibitively expensive, while generic running plans fail to account for individual progress and conditions. Exakt Health addresses these gaps with its innovative AI-driven approach, providing tailored running plans that adapt dynamically to a user’s evolving fitness level and injury risk.

“Our AI-based running plans not only personalize training but also replicate the guidance of professional coaches,” said Philip Billaudelle, CEO and co-founder of Exakt Health. “This holistic and preventative approach fills a significant market void, making effective training accessible to all runners, from novices to seasoned athletes.”

Since launching its service in partnership with Barmenia, a major German private health insurer, Exakt Health has reached approximately 300,000 policyholders. This collaboration allows users to access the app at no additional cost, enhancing Barmenia’s service offerings while expanding Exakt Health’s reach. Additional partnerships with other insurers are already on the horizon, aiming to broaden their impact further.

The funding round was spearheaded by Barmenia Next Strategies, alongside investments from ESB Invest, Backbone Ventures, and notable angel investors such as Maximilian Tayenthal, co-founder of N26, and HR expert Cornelia Oelling. Dr. Jan Seidel, Managing Director of Barmenia Next Strategies, expressed confidence in the venture, stating, “The founding team of Exakt Health impressed us with their extensive experience and scientifically grounded approach, demonstrating the potential of digital solutions in modern healthcare.”

With the fresh capital, Exakt Health plans to enhance its offerings significantly, including the rollout of intelligent, AI-based running training plans tailored to individual progress and physical conditions. Billaudelle aims to grow their user base from 200,000 to over one million within the next 18 months, setting a new standard in sports training.

Editorial Perspective

The potential for Exakt Health to disrupt the health and fitness industry is considerable. By leveraging AI technology, they are not only improving accessibility but also ensuring that users receive personalized, effective training regimens. The partnership with Barmenia exemplifies how strategic alliances can enhance service offerings and foster innovation in health tech.

Moreover, as digital solutions become more integral to healthcare, Exakt Health stands at the forefront of a transformative wave that prioritizes patient-centered approaches. The upcoming clinical studies will likely bolster the credibility and efficacy of their services, paving the way for broader acceptance and integration into traditional healthcare frameworks.

In an era where health awareness is on the rise, Exakt Health‘s commitment to preventative care and individualized training plans positions it favorably for sustained growth and significant impact in the industry.
