In a significant step towards sustainable energy solutions, 1s1 Energy has successfully raised $1.4 million in Seed funding to enhance its innovative green hydrogen production technology. Founded in 2019 by a team of dedicated experts including Daniel Sobek, Sukanta Bhattacharyya, Thiago Figueiredo, and Prof. T Don Tilley, the company is focused on making green hydrogen an affordable and scalable option for industries essential to global decarbonisation efforts.
The company’s groundbreaking approach utilizes boron-based materials in their electrolysers, resulting in remarkable efficiency and durability. This advancement not only optimizes the electrochemical components but also enables the development of more compact and efficient systems, making green hydrogen a feasible solution for high-emission sectors like steel production. As Sobek, the CEO of 1s1 Energy, states, “We’ve taken PEM (Proton Exchange Membrane) technology to a new level by introducing our boron-based materials. This innovation has allowed us to rethink electrochemical components to optimise the electrochemical cell’s performance.”
In addition to the funding round, 1s1 Energy has initiated a $2.3 million electrolysis stack project in collaboration with CEEE-G (Companhia Estadual de Geração e Transmissão de Energia Elétrica) under Brazil’s Aneel P&D program. This project also enjoys the backing of CSN (Companhia Siderúrgica Nacional), Brazil’s largest steel producer, further solidifying 1s1 Energy’s commitment to driving the adoption of green hydrogen.
Investors such as Faber Ventures and Asiri LLC led the funding effort, with participation from Rumbo Ventures, City Light, and Gibson Lane GmbH. Carlos Esteban, a partner at Faber Ventures, expressed confidence in 1s1 Energy’s mission: “Their novel approach to green hydrogen production holds immense potential to drive impactful change, and we’re thrilled to be part of their journey.”
The new funding will facilitate the scaling of R&D operations, expansion of the team, and demonstration of technology capabilities. This includes the development of next-generation electrolysers designed to operate at elevated temperatures, further enhancing efficiency and performance.
