In a significant stride towards enhancing disaster claims processing, Austrian startup DeepOpinion has successfully raised €11 million in a Series A funding round. Specializing in enterprise-level process automation, DeepOpinion harnesses advanced AI technology to tackle the complexities of knowledge-intensive tasks within business operations.
Recent natural disasters, particularly floods in Austria, have illuminated the urgent challenges insurers face during catastrophic events. Claim volumes can soar by 10 to 50 times, overwhelming traditional processing systems that rely heavily on human intervention. Currently, it takes insurers an average of five weeks to process each claim, a delay that can lead to distress for those affected by disasters.
At the heart of DeepOpinion’s innovation is its ability to manage vast amounts of unstructured data—emails, documents, messages, and forms—effectively. With over 93 million individuals impacted by disasters globally in 2023, the need for rapid and efficient processing has never been more critical.
DeepOpinion’s platform leverages context-understanding capabilities and large language models (LLMs) to automate claims in a mere 90 seconds. This advancement marks a transformative shift in how unstructured data is managed, allowing for the swift development of custom applications that automate the entire claims process. The platform’s standout features include AI agents that function as intelligent intermediaries between various software tools and a self-optimizing system that learns from human feedback, facilitating touchless data processing.
Stefan Engl, co-founder of DeepOpinion, emphasized the company’s mission: “We’re not just improving productivity; we’re reinventing work itself. Our AI delivers full autonomy for knowledge-intensive workflows, automating entire processes end-to-end.” He noted that the technology addresses evolving workforce dynamics, automating tasks that may be less appealing to younger generations while also mitigating gaps created by retiring employees.
The recent funding round was co-led by Red River West and AIpha Intelligence Capital, with participation from existing investors including Lunar Ventures and Stride VC. This capital injection will be pivotal for DeepOpinion as it aims for global expansion and further enhancement of its core AI platform.
Antoine Blondeau, Managing Partner at Alpha Intelligence Capital, remarked, “DeepOpinion stands out in the crowded AI landscape with its ability to fully automate complex knowledge work at scale.” Oliver Huez, Partner at Red River West, added, “Traditional automation tools, like robotic process automation (RPA) systems, were never structured to fully automate end-to-end knowledge work.”
DeepOpinion has already made significant inroads in various sectors, serving clients such as Siemens, e&, BitPanda, HannoverRe, and major insurers like Uelzener and Allianz. Karsten Vogel, an Innovation Leader at Uelzener Insurance, shared his satisfaction with DeepOpinion’s technology: “Before working with DeepOpinion, the technology wasn’t able to deliver the results we needed. Currently, we are extremely satisfied with our results. The speed at which we can bring projects to market—within a quarter—is extraordinary.”
