In a pivotal move for sustainable transport, Polish firm MMI has secured €7.7 million from the Vinci S.A. fund. This substantial investment will drive MMI’s ambitious plan to transform public transport with a new range of electric and hydrogen-powered minibuses. With this funding, MMI aims to expand its product lineup, enhance technological capabilities, and significantly increase production capacity.
MMI’s development strategy includes creating electric buses in three distinct variants: low-entry, low-floor, and standard-floor models. Central to their vision is the development of zero-emission drive technology, innovative chassis and body designs, and an electric minibus powered by hydrogen fuel cells. The company also plans to build a state-of-the-art production facility, which is expected to double their manufacturing output.
The European Commission’s recent directive, mandating a 90% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2040, underscores the urgency for sustainable transport solutions. Diesel buses, significant contributors to air pollution, are set to be replaced by zero-emission alternatives, with new city buses required to be entirely emission-free by 2030. The company is introducing a novel skeletal-laminate body construction, which promises to significantly reduce vehicle weight compared to traditional steel-aluminum frames. Additionally, MMI is working on a new drivetrain system that integrates synchronous motors into the wheel hubs, enhancing efficiency and reliability.
