Nium, a trailblazer in real-time cross-border payments, has elevated Spencer Hanlon to the role of Chief Operating Officer (COO). Hanlon, who previously led Nium’s Global Travel division, joins the executive ranks to steer the company through its next phase of growth and operational excellence.
Hanlon’s journey at Nium began in 2021 following the acquisition of Ixaris Group Ltd., where he served as Chairman. His strategic acumen and leadership were pivotal in expanding Nium’s presence in the virtual card issuance market, achieving remarkable revenue growth of 100% year over year in Asia.
In his new capacity, Hanlon will oversee Nium’s global operations, focusing on enhancing client onboarding processes, scaling technical services, and driving long-term strategic initiatives. He will report directly to Nium’s Founder and CEO, Prajit Nanu.
Prajit Nanu expressed confidence in Hanlon’s capabilities, stating, “Spencer’s appointment as COO marks a natural progression in his journey with Nium. His deep-seated understanding of our business coupled with a proven track record in scaling operations makes him the ideal leader to navigate our ambitious growth trajectory.”
Hanlon, based in London, brings extensive experience from his tenure at British Airways and Lufthansa’s AirPlus International, where he held various senior positions across global markets. His leadership ethos centers on customer-centric innovation and operational excellence.
Reflecting on his new role, Hanlon emphasized, “I am honored to lead Nium’s global operations at such a pivotal time in our journey. Our commitment to revolutionizing cross-border payments remains unwavering, and I look forward to driving continued excellence and innovation across our teams worldwide.”
Hanlon succeeds Pratik Gandhi, who played a crucial role in Nium’s growth as COO since 2019 and will transition into a new advisory role by year-end. Gandhi’s contributions were lauded by Nanu, underscoring his pivotal role in shaping Nium’s culture and operational capabilities.
