Char.gy Raises €118.2M to Expand UK EV Charging Network

Char.gy, a leader in UK electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure, secures €118.2 million investment to accelerate nationwide expansion of its on-street charging network. The funding, from the Charging Infrastructure Investment Fund (CIIF) managed by Zouk Capital, aims to meet the growing demand for accessible EV charging solutions, particularly for households without off-street parking.

Founded in 2016, Char.gy has become a pivotal partner for UK councils, deploying public charge points under the CIIF’s £420 million initiative. This latest funding round, following earlier investments totaling £71.4 million, propels Char.gy’s plan to increase its current 3,000 charge points to 100,000 by 2030, serving up to 1 million drivers.

George Ridd, Partner at Zouk Capital, highlighted the strategic importance of the investment, stating, “Char.gy plays a critical role in the EV market’s rapid growth. Our commitment ensures sustainable, long-term solutions that empower local authorities to meet residents’ evolving needs.”

John Lewis, CEO of Char.gy, emphasized the company’s mission to democratize EV adoption. “This funding allows us to expand our network,” Lewis said, “bridging accessibility gaps and supporting the UK’s transition to sustainable transport.”

Since 2018, Char.gy has maintained over 99% network availability, starting in Marlow, Buckinghamshire. With the capability to deploy 500 charge points monthly, Char.gy aims to help achieve the UK’s target of 300,000 public chargers by 2030, reducing carbon emissions and promoting cleaner communities.

“We are committed to partnering with local councils,” Lewis added, “to drive forward the UK’s green agenda with scalable, expert solutions.”

Char.gy’s vision for 2030 focuses on enhancing the EV experience for over one million drivers, advancing sustainable transport solutions nationwide.

With this investment, Char.gy strengthens its commitment to environmental stewardship and supports the UK’s Net Zero 2050 goals. As the nation embraces sustainable mobility, Char.gy stands ready to lead the charge.
