In a groundbreaking move for public safety, the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) has partnered with ZeroEyes, a leader in AI-based gun detection technology, to implement wide-scale weapons detection analytics across its transit facilities. This initiative marks a significant milestone as RTC becomes the first transit agency in the United States to deploy such advanced security measures aimed at protecting residents and visitors from gun-related violence.
Founded in 1965, RTC oversees the intricate network of public transportation, traffic management, and regional planning efforts for the Las Vegas metropolitan area. With more than 50 million riders annually across 39 routes and a fleet of over 400 vehicles, the safety and security of its passengers are paramount concerns.
ZeroEyes’ cutting-edge AI gun detection software integrates seamlessly with RTC’s existing network of digital security cameras. Upon detecting a firearm, the technology immediately transmits real-time alerts and critical intelligence to RTC’s Operations Center, staffed 24/7 by experienced military and law enforcement veterans. This rapid response capability, delivering actionable insights within 3 to 5 seconds of detection, enables swift coordination with local law enforcement to mitigate potential threats effectively.
“The safety of our passengers and operators is at the core of RTC’s mission,” stated MJ Maynard, CEO of the RTC. “By embracing innovative solutions like ZeroEyes, we are setting a new standard in transit security, enhancing our ability to safeguard the communities we serve.”
United Safety & Survivability Group (United Safety), a trusted partner in the transit sector, facilitated the deployment of ZeroEyes’ technology under a 1-year contract. This collaboration underscores RTC’s commitment to leveraging state-of-the-art solutions to address evolving security challenges.
Joseph Mirabile, CEO of United Safety, emphasized the transformative impact of ZeroEyes on enhancing public safety: “RTC’s adoption of ZeroEyes reflects a proactive approach to protecting passengers and improving overall transit security. We are proud to support RTC in this critical endeavor.”
Mike Lahiff, CEO of ZeroEyes, applauded RTC’s leadership in embracing innovative security measures: “RTC’s decision to deploy our AI gun detection technology demonstrates their commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of their community. We look forward to partnering with RTC and United Safety to further advance public safety initiatives.”
ZeroEyes’ technology, recognized by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security for its efficacy in enhancing anti-terrorism efforts, is tailored to address the unique security needs of transit systems, educational institutions, healthcare facilities, corporate campuses, and other public venues. Headquartered in the Greater Philadelphia area, ZeroEyes continues to expand its footprint as a trusted provider of advanced security solutions.
